The Need for Lifelong Learning

Nowadays, everyone talks about lifelong learning and development. You can read tons of articles about it, top managers talk about it, consultants promote it. Why has it suddenly become such a hot topic? It is not just because of the "VUCA world," the volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous world everyone is talking about, but rather because progress has accelerated and will accelerate in the future. Because the more well-educated people there are, the faster progress and development will take place. In fact, there are many industries where progress is so dramatic that employees are made redundant on a large scale. We are in the midst of a period of change where repetitive work is being replaced by computer systems using artificial intelligence and advanced computer science. Entire professions are dying out while, fortunately, many new ones are being created.

All of this makes it extremely important for people in the corporate world, and especially those who are more advanced in their careers, to remain vigilant and agile in their professional activities. If you are not constantly evolving, you will be left behind while progress that is happening around you, whether you like it or not. If you do not invest in further learning, your skills will inevitably become outdated. Senior employees in particular run the risk of not taking the time to invest in themselves due to their busy schedules, and then when they are sorted out of their jobs for whatever reason, they lack actual skills and therefore confidence, making it even harder to find a new job.

Nowadays, companies are particularly keen to upskill or retrain the workforce. However, it is not always clear to individuals what exactly they should be learning and developing. If there is no immediate need to learn completely different skills from what you already have, you should at least make sure that you stay up to date on your skills. This may mean continuing to invest in your technical skills or your interpersonal skills such as communication or leadership skills, developing your critical thinking or problem-solving skills, or learning anything else you do to improve yourself.

Always keep in mind that it is not enough to learn from books, podcasts, articles, courses, teachers or others, because you will only develop if you apply what you learn. Development is the process that begins after learning. It is about putting knowledge into practice, mastering skills and making them part of your behavior and habits.

With Corporate Life Mastery, you can develop yourself and your employees in the areas of leadership and critical thinking. This will give you and your company a competitive advantage.
